Protesters confronted some men loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) interfering with their demonstration in Ojota, Lagos, on Friday.

They complained about the unnecessary interference and threats APC hirelings had issued to them on the second day of the #EndBadGovernance protests at Freedom Park.

Soweto (his nick name), one of the leading protesters, complained about the threats that foreign agents had been issuing to the #EndBadGovernance protesters close to Freedom Park since Thursday.

“We have been doing what the police told us to do since Thursday. Our DJ was setting up his equipment inside the park when these people came and threatened him,” Soweto told journalists.

“They started to ask why he wanted to set up his sound system there. It makes us feel like you don’t even want us to protest inside the park.”

Security operatives told the protesters they had to move their demonstration into Freedom Park in Ojota.

Overgrown weed occupied Freedom Park at the time police officers told the protesters to use it, but a mower was later used to get rid of the weed.

The protesters planned to use the park on Friday morning but many insisted that the protest could not be confined to the park.

Nigerians decided to protest against economic hardship and bad governance between August 1 and August 10.

Demonstrations in Lagos, including Ojota, did not turn violent but there were threats against protesters from anti-protest entities.

The nationwide protests follow months of higher electricity tariffs, costly petrol and food inflation.
