PHOTOS: Angry Subscribers Vandalise MTN Office Over Deactivated Sim Cards

Angry subscribers have vandalised one of the Lagos offices of MTN, a mobile telecommunication company, to express frustration over their deactivated sim cards.

EQ gathered that the subscribers had stormed the telecommunication office at 72 Junction, Opposite First Bank, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos, on Monday morning.

A resident who stays across the office but would like to remain anonymous told EQ that the crowd became uncontrollable after they perceived the MTN staff were unwilling to attend to them.

Customers still waiting to be attended to.

“People visited the office on Monday to complain about their deactivated lines, but I think the MTN officials were not attending to them and the people got angry and started scattering the premises,” he said.

“However, normalcy has since been restored to the area even though some customers are still hanging around.”

A 17-second video shared on X and seen by EQ showed a crowd of subscribers breaking into the telecoms premises.

The crowd pulled back the iron bars used as security fencing around the premises to access the building.

Meanwhile, a directive issued on Monday afternoon by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ordered telecommunications companies to temporarily restore customers’ access to deactivated sim cards.
