For being considerate enough to avoid crashing a car, Oghenero Oguma, the director of Obakpor Engineering Limited in Ughelli, Delta State, ordered policemen to beat the life out of Good Odigili, a former truck driver with the company.
Odigili told EQ he was in the Patani area of Delta to load his truck with sand on June 21 when an impatient driver double-crossed his vehicle at a checkpoint.
“To avoid hitting the car, I swerved in a different direction but did not know there was a gutter in that direction, so my truck fell to the ground and rested on the driver’s side. Everything happened so fast,” Odigili told EQ on Tuesday.

Odigili said that Oguma, his director, was not having it when he learnt of what had happened. He said his director arrived at the scene alongside the transport manager and his escorts, all furious.
“My director asked me why I did not crash into the car and kill the driver. He said he was expecting to meet corpses on the floor for him to bury, but since he did not, he would teach me a lesson,” Odigili recalled.
Odigili narrated how Oguma ordered three friends and three policemen to put him in their Hilux. He said he thought they were taking him to a police station, but they drove towards an untarred area.
After driving about five meters, Oguma ordered the policemen to bring him down and handcuff him.

“The next episode was wood, cutlass, and all they had with them. His friends beat me so seriously that I could have died while the policemen watched,” Odigili told EQ.
“When they were satisfied, they took the handcuff off and left me writhing in pain. I struggled to get to the road. A good Samaritan drove me to the major road, where I took a bus home. Three hours later, I received my salary and a notification of my dismissal.”
When EQ called Oguma on Tuesday, he pretended the number EQ dialled was incorrect. However, Truecaller showed the phone number belonged to him.
