No Mention of Officer’s Arrest as IGP Orders Transfer of Osun Police Shooting Case to Abuja

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has directed that the case involving the police shooting of Nurudeen Iyanda, Chairman of the Osun Transport Management System, be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for investigation.

Giwa Alade Emmanuel, the deputy public relations officer of the police, confirmed this to EQ during a phone call on Wednesday.

EQ earlier reported that the transport union chairman was on life support at the Osun State Teaching Hospital after the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested him on Monday night claimed they shot him when he tried to escape.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun, the IGP ordered the arrest of Moses Lohor, the head of the anti-kidnapping squad in Osun State, and members of his team for their involvement in the shooting.

“Moses Lohor had shot Mr Alowonle in the abdomen at the police station after his arrest over a domestic brawl with a neighbour,” the statement reads in part.

When EQ called the deputy police PRO for confirmation, he said the IGP had directed the transfer of the case to the force headquarters.

He did not confirm if the involved officers had been arrested.

“Presently, the IGP has directed the case and every person involved to be transferred to the force headquarters for discrete investigation,” Emmanuel told EQ.

Many students and workers in Osogbo could not go to their schools or work on Wednesday because there were no commercial buses for commuting.

The road transport workers suspended their activities in protest against the police shooting of their chairman.

A worker who was on her way to work on Wednesday morning told EQ that she had to head back home when she saw how some men stopped the few commercial vehicles operating and forced passengers to alight from the vehicles.
