Akinola Omotola, a Lagos resident, bought a router device that Airtel had advertised came with a free SIM and free N20,000 worth of data on Thursday. When he attempted registering the line, Omotola discovered the line had been pre-registered by someone else, with the free data also credited to the person.
Omotola told EQ on Tuesday that he bought the router from an Airtel agent in Computer Village, Ikeja. Stephprisa Solutions Ltd., the agent, gave Omotola a receipt for the N52,000 purchase.

However, since the issue could not be resolved with the retail agent, he was directed to Airtel’s office to resolve the issue.
“I visited the Airtel office at 5, Oba Akran Avenue, in Ikeja, to complain in person but I was rudely attended to by an agent named Deborah who claimed they would have resolved the issue if I purchased the device from the office. She said that, since I got the router from an agent, there was nothing they could do about it, that I should go back to the seller for a solution,” Omotola explained.
