Five #EndBadGovernance protesters arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja will now pay N5 million bail instead of the initial N10 million.

This development comes after Justice Emeka Nwite reduced their bail requirements on Monday because they could not meet the original conditions.

According to The Punch, some of the protesters, previously remanded in correctional centres, could not meet some of the bail requirements, which included a surety with landed property in Abuja.

On September 11, EQ reported that the court had granted bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters charged with treason, intimidation of the president, incitement to mutiny, destabilisation of the country and other crimes.

The court had ordered them to pay N10 million each.

In addition to the N10 million, the protesters were also required to provide one surety in like sum.

The protesters, nine men and one lady, were Michael Adaramoye (Lenin), Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaoluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis and Abdulsalam Zubairu.

The #EndBadGovernance protest, which took place from August 1 to August 10, was a nationwide demonstration against economic hardship caused by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a report dated August 26, EQ reported how the Federal High Court in Abuja had granted a motion for the remand of 75 Nigerians accused of attempting to overthrow the government through their involvement in the protest.

EQ’s report revealed that at least 22 of the names on the motion were children under 18.
