Kadiri Abimaje, a Lagos State-based businessman, has narrated how Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) refused to refund $129 to him after he had two failed transactions on his bank account.
While speaking with EQ on Monday, Abimaje said the failed transactions occurred on September 2 and 27.
“On September 2, I made a $100 payment to sellvia.com, an e-commerce platform, so I could become one of its vendors but the transaction failed,” said Abimaje.
“A few moments later, I discovered that the $100 had been debited from my GTB dollar account number. This means the debit was passed on to my account despite the fact that the transaction had failed.
“The money never got to the intended beneficiary.”

Abimaje told EQ that he sent several emails to GTB on the matter, but the bank failed to return the funds to his account.

“As we speak, the matter has remained unattended to by my bank,” Abimaje said.
“On September 27, I again attempted another transaction worth $29 to the same sellvia.com from the same GTB account, and this transaction also failed.
“Just like the September 2 transaction, I reached out to my bank to let it know that another $29 had been debited from my account for a failed transaction.
“None of my emails have been responded to. My $129 has been stuck with GTB since September and none of its officials has done anything to ensure that my money gets refunded to my account.”
EQ sent an email to GTB’s customer care unit on Monday for comments. GTB had not responded to EQ at press time.
