Fake Website Created by US-Based Scammer Shut Down After EQ's Story

Alatbywema.com, a fake website created by a scammer in the United States to defraud unsuspecting customers of Alat By Wema, has been suspended.

This swift action occurred on Friday, just three days after EQ exposed how the website, created on July 30, mirrored Alat By Wema’s identity to start phishing for customers’ details.

EQ quickly identified the fraudulent website after its administrator sent a message to a Lagos resident, who then notified EQ about the troubling situation she found herself in.

She told EQ she had no phone number linked to her account and was shocked to get such a message. After a quick search, EQ found that the message was not from an authentic source.

EQ contacted Alat By Wema and one of its consultants on August 7 to alert them about the coordinated attacks on its customers. The website was subsequently taken down.
