The three kidnapped family members of Ahmed Ajobe, a former editor with Daily Trust, have regained freedom, EQ can confirm.
A source told EQ that they regained freedom on Sunday evening, three days after their kidnapping.
“I spoke with the former editor, and he confirmed it. He did not say anything about ransom. Of course, he was diplomatic about that angle, but he said they had released them, and they came back home safely. No harm. Nothing,” the source disclosed.

Earlier, EQ reported that kidnappers abducted three relatives of the journalist in Kogi State on Thursday. One of the abductees was Ajobe’s immediate younger sister.
They were kidnapped while returning from a market in Awo, Ankpa Local Government Area (LGA), where they had gone to buy some items for a seven-day prayer for the former editor’s late mother who died some days ago.
EQ heard that they were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 3:00 pm along the Ankpa-Adoka-Markudi road.
EQ also learnt that when the kidnappers reached out to the family on Friday, they demanded a ransom of N50 million.

William Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi police, confirmed the kidnapping on Saturday, noting that the police had joined efforts with local security agencies to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped family members.
Efforts to reach the police spokesperson on Monday for comments regarding their release were unsuccessful as his line was busy and the message sent to him via SMS had not been responded to.
