Ajayi Crowther University Replaces Sex Offender as HOD After EQ's Story

The management of Ajayi Crowther University has replaced Dr Adeyinka Adeoye with Dr Bolanle Sogunro as the Head of its English Department.

This move from Ajayi Crowther University is coming after EQ reported that the university’s management reinstated Adeoye, a lecturer who a panel found guilty of sexually assaulting students in 2022, and appointed him as the Head of the English Department.

EQ confirmed that the Dean of the Arts Faculty announced to some lecturers in the English Department in a meeting on Wednesday that there was a leadership change. Announcing Sogunro before the participants of the meeting, the Dean noted that this move was from the management in its “wisdom”.

Earlier, EQ reported that the university reinstated Adeoye and appointed him head of the department, two years after the set of students he assaulted had graduated.

After a disciplinary panel found Adeoye guilty, the university found a way to reinstate him despite many expecting immediate employment termination.

EQ contacted Femi Atoyebi, the university’s spokesperson, via a WhatsApp message on Thursday, following a call in which our reporter asked the same question, but he did not respond. Atoyebi had not responded at press time.
