After EQ's Story, OPay Replaces Oyo Businessman’s Seized PoS Machine

OPay has issued a new PoS machine to Michael Okusanya, an Oyo State-based businessman whose old device was seized by their Ibadan office when he presented it for repairs.

This comes four days after EQ published a story about how the OPay branch at Ring Road in Ibadan treated Okusanya badly and misplaced his MTN SIM card when he visited their office to resolve an issue on October 21.

“OPay has given me a brand new PoS. They gave it to me on Tuesday. I have tested and confirmed it is good,” Okusanya told EQ.

“They called me on Monday, apologised for how they treated me and promised to either give me a new one or return the one I took to them. I chose the new option. Thank you, EQ, for your intervention.”

On Friday, EQ reported that Okusanya visited the OPay office in Ibadan to remove his wife’s account from his PoS machine and link his own account. He had initially bought the machine but hadn’t used it due to a BVN issue.

However, an OPay staff confiscated the machine without providing a reason for seizing it. This action was against OPay’s assurance at the time of purchase in 2022 that the device would remain with him unless he chose to return it.

Okusanya said he spoke to a manager about the situation, but this did not help him retrieve his PoS. Instead, the staff to whom the office director referred Okusanya to treated him badly.

When he got home, he realised his MTN SIM card was in the machine. However, when he called them, they claimed it was not there. He contacted OPay via email but received no response until EQ intervened.
