Ecobank has returned N1.8 million to Olawale Akintola, a South Africa-based Nigerian businessman, who erroneously transferred the sum to an account belonging to one of the financial institution’s customers in July.
This refund came after EQ published a report on the matter on November 16.
“Ecobank returned the N1.8 million to my account on Friday night, at exactly 8:11 pm,” a delighted Akintola told EQ on Saturday.
“Thank you so much, EQ. I really appreciate what you have done for me. This is quite amazing.

“Since I made the transfer error in July, I have been trying to see how I could recover my money back from Ecobank, but I did not get a single response from them.
“I only reported the matter to you on November 14 and look at how fast you have assisted me in recovering the sum.
“Thank you again, EQ. May God continue to bless your entire management and staff.”
On November 16, EQ reported how the businessman erroneously transferred N1.8 million from his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account to an Ecobank account number. He made the transactional error on July 2.

After this, he immediately contacted GTB for help on how the money could be recovered and was advised to obtain a court order just so the recovery of the sum from Ecobank could be initiated.
The court order was submitted to Ecobank in the same July, but Akintola would still not get his money back till he reported the incident to EQ on November 14.
