A nine-year-old girl residing in Benin, Edo State, has narrated how three men have been sexually molesting her for more than a month.

In a video shared by X user Alex Onyia on Friday, the nine-year-old said that one of her molesters had been raping her by pretending to help her out with her school assignments.

She said that after her mother would have gone to the market, one of the rapists would visit their house to do her assignment, but with her on his lap while helping her out.

“After he’s done, he’d send Testimony and others (my brothers) outside to go and play, saying he wants to do my assignment. He would now take me inside the room and pull my pants. If I try to shout, he would cover my mouth before molesting me,” the minor said.

The girl said that the men had been molesting her since at least October.

She said her mother learnt of what had been happening after another woman who caught one of the men briefed her.

In an accompanying video, Grace John, the mother of the minor, said that while she had taken her daughter to the hospital for treatment, none of the molesters had lived up to their reputation as abusers.

She said that one of the rapists, who is also her neighbour, beat her when she confronted him and that he was taking advantage of her daughter because she had no one to run to.

“He tells people not to interfere in the matter because the man raping my daughter does so and gives me money. The one (another rapist) who broke my head slapped me, and a friend of his joined him and hit me with something on my head,” said John.

Citizen Gavel, a non-governmental organisation providing legal services to vulnerable individuals, posted on X on Saturday that one of the rapists, a 50-year-old man, was on the run while the other two still walked freely.

“The victim’s mother also informed us that in addition to getting no substantial assistance from the police, after reporting the crime, the culprits recently sent thugs to beat and intimidate her, knowing she can’t afford legal representation,” Citizen Gavel said.

When EQ contacted Moses Yamu, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for comments, he said he would investigate the matter and get back to our reporter.
